Spider-Man
Sam Raimi's 2002 origin story: a radioactive bite, a homemade suit, and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. This is the film that made the character a modern blockbuster and still the best first stop for the live-action line.
OpenRaimi, Webb, MCU, Spider-Verse, and Sony's Venom films in theatrical release order
Spider-Man does not share one continuous timeline. This page lists the major theatrical films in release order — the way audiences first saw them — and labels each continuity so you know when the story reboots. Sam Raimi's trilogy, Marc Webb's two Amazing films, the MCU Holland trilogy, the Spider-Verse animations, and Sony's Venom movies are separate universes that only collide in No Way Home. There is no single in-universe chronology that includes every title below.

Open
Peter tries to quit the mask while Doctor Octopus tears the city apart. Often called the high point of the Raimi films for its train sequence, Alfred Molina, and the 'Pizza time' humanity that later reboots kept chasing.
Open
Venom, Sandman, and a black suit arrive in the same movie. Messy and overstuffed, but it closes the original trilogy and is the first time Eddie Brock's symbiote hits a live-action screen.
Open
A full reboot with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The Lizard origin and Oscorp conspiracy replace the Raimi continuity — treat this as a new universe, not a sequel.
Open
Electro, Green Goblin, and a crowded third act end the Webb run. Watch it to finish Garfield's story and to understand why No Way Home later brings this Peter back.
Open
Tom Holland's MCU debut after Captain America: Civil War. Peter balances high school with a Stark-built suit and a neighborhood villain — the first Spider-Man film that assumes you already live in the Marvel universe.
Open
Miles Morales meets every other Spider-Person in a hand-painted animated film that reinvented the character. It is not a sequel to Homecoming — it is its own continuity and the missing first half of the Spider-Verse story.
Open
Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock bonds with an alien in Sony's separate Marvel universe. Released the same year as Into the Spider-Verse and years before Across the Spider-Verse — it is not an MCU film.
Open
A European class trip after Avengers: Endgame. Mysterio gaslights Peter with drone illusions, and the mid-credits sting sets up the identity leak that explodes in the next MCU film.
Open
A botched spell tears open the multiverse and brings Maguire and Garfield's Peters into the MCU. Watch the earlier trilogies first if you want those cameos to land; this is the only film that officially connects the live-action reboots.
Open
Cletus Kasady becomes Carnage while Eddie and Venom bicker through a shorter, gorier sequel. Still Sony's universe — skip it if you only want the Holland or Spider-Verse tracks.
Open
Jared Leto's living vampire is another Sony spin-off, not a Spider-Man movie. Included because it sits in the same Venom-adjacent universe; it is optional and widely skipped on first watches.
Open
The 2023 sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, not to No Way Home. Miles clashes with Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Society; watch the 2018 film first or the canon events plot will feel like a mid-sentence.
Open
The 2024 close of Hardy's Venom trilogy. Watch Venom and Let There Be Carnage first; it does not continue Across the Spider-Verse or the MCU.
OpenRelease order, grouped by universe. Watch Raimi 1–3, then Amazing 1–2, then the MCU trilogy (Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home). Watch Into the Spider-Verse before Across the Spider-Verse. Venom, Let There Be Carnage, and The Last Dance are a separate Sony trilogy.
Release order. The films reboot the origin several times, so a single chronological timeline does not exist. No Way Home is the only live-action film that treats the earlier Peters as other universes rather than earlier chapters.
No. They belong to Sony's universe and do not continue Holland's MCU story. Watch them only if you want the Venom trilogy; Morbius is optional even then.
It premiered in 2018, after Homecoming and before Far From Home. Story-wise it is independent: start the animated line with Into the Spider-Verse, then Across the Spider-Verse. Beyond the Spider-Verse is still forthcoming.
